A typical week in the La Amistad-Altamira region :
- Arriving sathurday or sunday in San Jose Airport
- Bus (7h) or private shuttle (5h) to the Asoprola lodge in Altamira
- Fresh drinks and good food at Asoprola on arrival
- Monday : visiting the farms of the area to discover how coffee trees are cultivated and coffee selected. Hear the story from the mouth of a cultivator himself ... and of course taste the product on site ! Eat bananas from the tree, drink a Ti Punch from cane sugar syrup in the plantation. If you have kids they'll love the farm animals !)
- Tuesday : starting a 3 days hike to La Amistad, going 21km deep into the forest in the famous Valle del Silencio to see a high altitude primary forest (2450m high). We'll cross the Cordillera and go on the Caraibean side.
- Friday : endulge yourself with a full day at the volcanic thermal pools (20km by 4WD car) with a good lunch in the stone pool, surrounded by the forest. (No concrete pools in Altamira !). The pool is near a cold river if you'd like to mix temperatures.
- Sathurday : Optional stay at the Pitiera refuge, not far from the thermal pools, in the forest to see nocturnal animals (no hiking needed, but a supplement for the car).
- Sunday : going back to San Jose, or continuing your trip to San Vito and the Corcovado Park.
That's a typical week including a strong 3 days hike. But it's also possible to have a softer 4 days hike or easy day hikes focusing on bird watching (great for families with small children) and enjoy the community : waterfalls, farms, bird watching ... Pura Vida ! (relax !).
Prices
To make your vacations a unique experience we currently limit the default offering to no more than 8 people at the same time. That's the maximum number of visitors for one guide in the park. Often during the year you can even be the only guests 20km around, feeling like a real Costa Rican !
But feel free to consult us in advance for larger groups.
Price per person :
(All included except alcool. Including 2 nights in one of the La Amistad park refuge, 4 nights at Asoprola, good food for 6 days, park fees).
- 1 person : 550 dollars
- 2-4 persons : 500 dollars per person
- 5-8 persons : 470 dollars per person
